Life Together at the End of the Age

This is the first time I shared a complete sermon on my various social media sites, I think, but I may do more from now on. :)

If you value my opinion at all know this, this is one of the best and most important sermons of our lifetime. I hope you will take the time and view it and listen closely to it. Although Dr. Jason Meyer has already taken the leadership role in preaching and vision at Bethlehem Church this sermon by our retiring pastor Dr. John Piper is sort of a handing-off-of the-reins sermon to Jason.

You may be offended by this sermon. If you are and you decide to stop then you will be missing some of the real gems in the message that John Piper gives. He talks about America and the world of today are facing a “…compulsory normalizing of sin…” True Christians, more and more are becoming “…marginalized, intimidated and criminalized…” The constant problem in our times, is deception.

If you don’t take in the entire sermon you may miss how to avoid “four errors that we could make as America darkens and Christianity is criminalized eschatologically… concerning the second coming.” You may observe, as I have, that Error #2 is the opposite error of Error #1. Just as Error #4 is the opposite error of Error #3. Also, you don’t want to miss his almost Rap “Solid AFFECTION for believers is a PROTECTION against DECEPTION” :)

You could go to DesiringGod.org and look for the sermon in written form to read it, but all of his sermons that are available in print form are really the “CliffsNotes” versions, you are missing a lot (In Canada I grew up with the equivalent “Coles Notes”). It is important to view the video or at the very least listen to the audio of the sermon. It is much more of a dramatic impact this way. Also there are many spoken words and nuances that are not included in the written form.

Jason Meyer is doing and will be doing an excellent job, but John Piper will be missed dearly. I love how he is so passionate in all his sermons. Among many things I also love how at the beginning of his sermons he draws a map, verbally giving an outline of where he is going in his sermon. When I gave a short ten minute speech at my Dad’s funeral, I unconsciously imitated this even though my talk was relatively short.
